Scholarship results for Class V, VIII announced

PUNE: Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) declared the results of the scholarship examinations for Class V and VIII on Thursday.

Overall, for both the classes, the State has recorded a pass percentage of 20.59. It has increased by around 2 per cent over last year. While the overall result of Class V has dropped slightly, that of Class VIII has improved by at least 1.5 per cent.

The result was declared on the Council’s website www.mscepune.in or on https://puppss.mscescholarshipexam.in on Thursday.

This year, Class V students in the State registered an overall result of 22.04 per cent, slightly lower than last year, which was 22.97 per cent. As for Class VIII, the pass percentage has risen to 18.49. “The passing percentage in the scholarship examinations has always been lower, since these are tough competitive examinations,”  MSCE Chairman Dattatray Jagtap said.

He added, “The part of Mental Aptitude questions was difficult to score for all, and the examination was Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) based. Not all students who appear were prepared to answer and clear this kind of questions.”

He said there was more excitement about the examination earlier, when these were conducted for Class IV and Class VII students.

“Earlier, especially at Zilla Parishad Primary Schools, the teachers competed with each other and wanted their students to excel. So they made more students prepare well. However, since the examination has been shifted to the high school level, the interest levels have lowered,” Jagtap added.

Any student scoring 40 per cent and above marks in the examination becomes eligible for the scholarship. Out of these, the MSCE filters out top 16,000.
