Pune: To honour the soldiers for undaunted bravery and distinguished military service, the Southern Command (SC) investiture ceremony will be organised in Pune on February 10.
Lieutenant General DR Soni, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Command, will present gallantry awards to six Army personnel. Fourteen units will also be awarded the ‘Southern Army Commander’s Unit Citation’ for their outstanding contribution to the nation and Indian Army. A large number of senior army officers, distinguished dignitaries, and other guests are expected to be in attendance.
“The Army has a long and glorious history. It has fought four major wars since independence besides the Kargil conflict in 1999. To maintain peace and law and order, the Army has also been employed to tackle multiple insurgencies in the North East and Jammu & Kashmir. Through the years, the soldier has always conducted himself with elan despite many challenges, whether on the icy heights of the Siachen Glacier, the blistering deserts of Thar or the dense jungles of the North East. The contribution of Army contingents in various United Nations (UN) missions on foreign soil to the cause of world peace is also unparalleled. During peacetime too, the Army has an unblemished record and has always been the last bastion of aid to civil authority during various natural calamities,” a press release from the command stated.
The award winners will be in the city on February 9 and 10 and are also likely to visit various places of interest in the city. As a special gesture, the Army has also invited selected children and staff from various schools to witness the solemn event.
