Pune: Women coming to Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) depots will find it easy to dispose of their sanitary napkins as the toilet managing firm Sulabh International has installed incinerators at Swargate bus station. The facility will be soon available at Shivajinagar and Pune station depots.
According to the Sulabh International, the facility has been provided recently at Swargate depot and by the next week, it will be installed at both Pune station and Shivajinagar station depots. The users will be charged a nominal fee. Sulabh International which runs 8,500 public toilets across the country.
Most of the time it has been observed that women travellers face an issue of disposals of the napkins. So, many of them throw it on the toilet which causes choking of the lavatories. This also adds to the inconvenience of labourers who clean up the choked lavatories.
“Installation of incinerators will also prevent women from flushing napkins down, which often results in clogging the toilets. The napkins don’t get flushed as they are light weight. It becomes to unchoke the toilets. Installations of incinerators will help take care of this issue for our workers,” said Santosh Kumar Singh, Deputy Controller, Sulabh
Members of Sulabh International in the city submitted the proposal to install the facility for women passengers a few months ago. Now, they have installed incinerators at Swargate bus depot. Recently, Central Railway had installed a dispenser and incinerators in the women’s toilets at Pune railway station depot and also Pune airport.
