Sakal Schoolympics is back, registrations to start today

Pune: The registration process for ‘Sakal Schoolympics’ organised by Sakal Media Group is all set to begin from Monday, July 23. This year, the registrations will be held online. The Schoolympics will give a chance to the students and schools in Pune city and districts to showcase their talent in sports through this competition.

This is the fourth edition of Sakal Schoolympics, which will be held from November 15 to December 20 this year. Earlier, the competitions were held in the years 2014, 2016 and 2017. For registering online, the schools can visit the website www.schoolympics.com or click the URL schoolympicspune-pranav.eaaria.in.

The schools that had registered for the competitions last year need to call on the given helpline number after which they will be provided with a login id and password, and the schools will be able to carry out the registration proctess. All the information related to the admission process is available on the website. All new as well as old schools need to do the primary registration by August 2. After this, these schools will be able to register their players. The last date for the final registration is August 23.

Sakal Schoolympics will be held in 22 different sports, out of which seven are team events and 15 are individual ones. The team sports events are for the boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 16 years. The individual events will be held in three age groups, 10 to 12 years, 12 to 14 years and 14 to 16 years.

The team sports events include basketball, cricket, football, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho and volleyball while the individual events will have badminton, boxing, gymnastics, judo, taekwondo, skating, table tennis, swimming, tennis, wrestling, shooting, archery, chess, and cycling. The participants will have an opportunity to win a total of 2,291 medals (714 gold, 714 silver and 863 bronze) in this grand competition.

Like last year, even this year, the medal tally will be held on the basis of points. The teams will get 15 points for gold medal, 9 for silver, and 3 for bronze. In the individual events, the player getting gold will get 5 points, and those winning silver and bronze will get 3 and 1 point respectively. The school gaining maximum points will be able to win the cash prizes and trophy.

 The help desks for the registration process will be available at the offices of Sakal in Budhwar Peth and Pimpri-Chinchwad from July 23 from 10 am to 6 pm, except for Sunday.

Cash Prizes
 The school emerging first will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh and a trophy. The first runner-up will get a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a trophy, while the second runner-up will get Rs 1 lakh and a trophy. Two players with maximum medals will also be awarded as ‘Champion Boy’ and ‘Champion Girl’. All the participants will also be awarded a certificate from Sakal Schoolympics.
