S Chockalingam to be an expert member of Niti Ayog’s task force

Speaking to Sakal Times, Chockalingam said, “Time has come to introduce land titling in the country. It will be a revolutionary step in protecting property rights of the people of our country.”

PUNE: Land Settlement Commissioner S Chockalingam has been selected as an expert member of Niti Ayog’s task force for land titling - Status and Way Forward. The task force consists of members from various departments, who will examine the recommendations submitted by the land titling committee.

Chokalingam has previously worked as Pune divisional commissioner and also as State educational commissioner. Speaking to Sakal Times, Chockalingam said, “Time has come to introduce land titling in the country. It will be a revolutionary step in protecting property rights of the people of our country.” 

The first meeting of the task force will be held on July 20 under the chairmanship of Dr Tajamul Haque, Special Cell on Land Policy. The scope of the task force will be to implement recommendations made by expert committee. The task force has ten members representing legal affairs, urban development and department of commerce and land resources. The task force will submit its report within two months from the date of its constitution. 

The task force will examine the recommendations of the expert committee on land titling formed by the Department of Land Resources. The task force will suggest implementation strategies and will draw an action plan after examining the suggestions like looking into the best practices as well as the realities of Indian land records. 

The Titling for the ‘Virgin Titles’ properties allocated by development authorities and properties sold for the first time like flats by developers along with voluntary titling for others who apply and where it is feasible will be looked into. The task force will examine the necessary legal framework for the implementation of land titling in Union Territories on priority.
