RPF deploys teams to control stone pelting

Pune: To prevent stone pelting by miscreants at railway coaches, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Pune rail division has deployed teams at spots where such incidents were reported. Recently, a man was nabbed by an RPF official near Akurdi station for throwing stones at a moving train.

The RPF conducted surveys and found that Dapodi, Akurdi, Chinchwad and Ghorpadi are the major spots where stone throwing incidents happened in the recent past.

The RPF received complaints of such incidents which occur mostly at night and affect long-distance trains. “We have identified places on the Pune-Lonavla and Daund route. We have deputed our staff at these spots. We have taken action against some culprits. The most common place where this menace occurs is between Pune and Lonavla. There are slums on the route and people from these areas indulge in such activities. The trains targeted are mainly local suburban trains that have no doors,” said D Vikas, Divisional Security Commissioner, Pune.

The Pune division records six to seven such cases in a month. “We have created posters for creating awareness against stone pelting on local trains and dangerous antics while on board running trains,” he added.
