Pune: The robot-assisted food dispensing machine installed at Pune airport for passengers is getting a good response. This facility was inaugurated by Airports Authority of India (AAI) Regional Executive Director Keshav Sharma in May for the first time. The facility was awarded the ‘Concept of the Year’ award in New Delhi recently.

Ajay Kumar, Director of Pune airport, said, “The state-of-the-art machine will enhance the customer experience. The Pune airport is the only airport, where this facility is available. The AAI appreciated the innovation.”

According to officials, the machine is fully automatic. It serves two kinds of meals - veg and non-veg. A kiosk is set up in front of the counter, where various dishes are available. When a flier places an order, then they can select the option of veg or non-veg. Once the order is placed, the two-handed machine gives out the meal as per the requirement.

“Food sourced from different city outlets will be available at the outlet. It is a modern machine that dispenses food once the customer makes a selection on an iPad connected to it and pays the amount through a debit/credit card or cash. A robotic arm delivers food after heating it in the microwave oven,” said Ajay Kumar.

Manish Kant, a flier from Delhi, told Sakal Times, “The packed food is much required at airports across India. This is one of the best services available at the Pune airport. Waiting for boarding a plane in itself is a tiring exercise. The automated-order kiosk at the airport saves you the effort of standing in the queue for food at the airport restaurant.”
