Pune: The Pune Railway Division has fined 2,500 passengers for littering on platforms and station premises. The health team and Tejas squad have taken action against these passengers and collected Rs 4.73 lakh as fine.
“The railway administration is serious about cleanliness and is working day and night to keep the station premises and railway tracks clean. As many as 160 cleaners have been engaged in the cleanliness of the station premises and platforms at the Pune junction,” said Manoj Jhawar, spokesperson of Pune Division.
“Also, along with traditional methods, modern machines are being used in the cleaning process and dustbins have been placed on the premises where the wet and dry garbage can be thrown. Due to our efforts, the Pune junction is in the top 10 stations in the A1 category stations in the survey of the highest standards of cleanliness,” he added.
“To keep the station premises clean, several steps have been taken and the cleanliness drive is monitored at different levels. In order to maintain cleanliness at the stations, the Pune Division had recently created a WhatsApp number (9766353772) where passengers can send photos and details if they find people littering and appropriate action will be taken,” said Jhawar.
“Special teams have been deployed for irresponsible people, who are involved in littering on the station premises. The railway administration has taken action against such passengers,” he said.
