“I came here to cancel my ticket of Pune-Darbhanga train. When I approached the officials, they gave me a blank paper to fill. Filling the details on a blank paper is difficult,” said Vivek Yadav.

Pune: Pune railway junction is grappling with a shortage of reservation and cancellation requisition forms at their Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters, forcing passengers to write their requirements on a blank paper for submission.

Railway authorities are giving contradictory statements, on one hand claiming that there is no shortage while blaming some passengers at the same time for this ‘blank paper’ trend.

Thousands of passengers approach the PRS counters everyday, where there is a separate counter for the requisition forms. These days, when the counters open at 8 am, railway officials keep blank papers.

Interestingly, they have pasted a format of the form on the wall instructing passengers what to write on the blank paper.

“I came here to cancel my ticket of Pune-Darbhanga train. When I approached the officials, they gave me a blank paper to fill. Filling the details on a blank paper is difficult,” said Vivek Yadav.

Another passenger, Jatin Kulkarni, said, “The situation is becoming worse nowadays. Most of the counters are closed everyday and now there is no proper form. We are filling details on a blank paper.”

Railway authorities are blaming the people who waste forms or keep extra ones for themselves, for this shortage.

“People are coming to fill up the forms but are keeping a bunch of forms with them. Sometimes, they also misuse the forms. We have deputed a staff at the counter to give forms to the passengers, but whenever the staff leaves the counter for some other work, people take the forms in large quantities,” said Manoj Kumar Jhawar, spokesperson of the Pune railway division.
