Rao asks for plan on tree plantation drive

Pune: To achieve the target of the proposed plantation of 13 crore trees by Maharashtra State, which is a part of the 50 crore tree plantation drive by State Forest Minister Sudhir Munguntiwar, Pune district Collector Saurabh Rao has sought a detailed plan of the tree plantation drive from the Forest Department.

As per the district information officer, a meeting with all senior officials of the district administration and Forest Department took place recently, following which the collector asked for details like proposed location of plantation and planning for the same.

“There is a need to track the progress of the plantation drive on a daily basis. Active co-operation of various government departments, co-operative societies, civil bodies, educational institutions, industry, voluntary organisations, civil society, non-government organisations and citizens can be sought in the plantation drive,” added Rao.

Officials of the Forest Department are conducting street plays in different parts of the city to promote the plantation drive. Rao said that details of earlier tree plantation drives can be uploaded using a mobile application.

Forest secretary Vikas Kharge is going to take a review of all government departments with respect to the progress of the drive on April 4, for which all the district collectors will
be present.
