Pune: The red dot campaign has crossed yet another milestone, as with the help of enthusiastic volunteers, almost a 1,000 pushcarts have been painted with the message ‘Wrap it and mark it with a red dot’ along with images of sanitary waste.

The campaign was launched by Pune Municipal Corporation, SWaCH, Kagad Kaach Patra Kashtakari Panchayat (KKPKP), a trade union of waste pickers, and Rotary Club Pune with citizens’ participation and an invitation to all to join in painting the pushcarts with the red dot message and images.

These carts are with waste pickers across different parts of the city and soon every SWaCH pushcart will be carrying this message. Geo mapping was used to ensure that there are carts in every corner of the city and the message reaches everywhere.

“Every pushcart used to collect waste is being painted with a message about the red dot and works as a daily reminder to citizens,” said Shobha Bansode, a waste picker at Prabhat Road.
