Pune woman jumps from balcony to save herself from molestation, rape

Pune: A 30-year-old woman jumped from the balcony of her flat after an unidentified man forced entry into the flat and tried to sexually assault her.

The woman has sustained serious injuries and her right leg is fractured.

The incident took place around 2.15 am on Thursday near Jeevan Jyot Hospital in Rahatani area. 

According to police, her husband was not at home. 

After the door bell rang several times the woman opened the door and the man forced entry into the room and locked it from inside. He molested the woman saying he liked her and would like to sleep with her. 

He threatened to kill her children if she opposed. She somehow managed to free herself from his clutches and then jumped from the balcony on the first floor.

Local residents admitted her to the hospital.

Based on complaint from the woman, Wakad police station registered FIR on Friday against the unidentified man for offences under sections 354 (outraging modesty of woman), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) under the Indian Penal Code.

Assistant police inspector A A Momin is further investigating the case.
