Pune students shine at NASA contest

Pune: Students from two schools in Pune have shined overseas at the Worldwide NASA Ames Settlement Contest 2018. While the students from the Orchid School have won the first place in the large team category, two teams of Vidya Valley School have emerged second in the small teach category.

Pune: Students from two schools in Pune have shined overseas at the Worldwide NASA Ames Settlement Contest 2018. While the students from the Orchid School have won the first place in the large team category, two teams of Vidya Valley School have emerged second in the small teach category.

The Pune students have won amongst around 2,500 schools from across the world. The contest is organised by NASA every year, where the students have to present their research on building space stations, its functioning, etc.
The students of Std VII and IX from the Orchid School presented a research project of 150 pages. The project titles ‘Lunar Orbit Station - Tara’ (LOS-Tara) was prepared by a team of 11 students. 

The school unit head, Netri Kulkarni, said, “The students have prepared this space centre project all by themselves. They have worked really hard for this, trying to get each and every available piece of information on space centres, its functionality, etc.”

The project included the description of life support, power, agriculture, the government required to support 15,000 citizens on LOS-Tara.
