Pune sizzles at 40.4 degrees Celsius

PUNE: On Saturday, the city recorded the season’s highest temperature at 40.4 degrees Celsius in Pune city. The minimum temperature recorded by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Celsius in the city was 20.9 degrees.

According to IMD forecast, the temperature in the city is set to rise and may touch 41 degrees Celsius in the coming few days. Central Maharashtra may witness a heat wave till April 29.

IMD has also predicted that the heat wave situation will continue in Vidarbha till May 1. On May 2, however, Vidarbha may witness thundershowers along with rainfall. On Saturday, the highest maximum temperature was reported at 45.2 degrees Celsius in Chandrapur in the State and the lowest minimum temperature was reported at 20.5 degrees Celsius in Nashik. The highest maximum temperature recorded over the plains was 46.5 degrees Celsius in Churu in west Rajasthan.

IMD has forecast that heavy rain is likely at isolated places over gangetic West Bengal on May 2. During the same time, thunderstorms accompanied with squall are likely at isolated places over Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar. IMD predicted that thunderstorms accompanied with gusty winds are very likely at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh. Also, dust storms and thunderstorms are very likely at isolated places over Rajasthan on May 2.
