Pune: Officials of the Pune rural police have shared their WhatsApp number to allow people to complain against violations of noise pollution norms. People can contact ‘100’ of the police control room or can send a message on 9422405421 for noise pollution-related complaints under the jurisdiction of Pune rural police.
Police officials said that people can also complain at local police stations regarding noise pollution. The police said that DJ processions, drum noise, use of dolby speaker complaints can be lodged by citizens through this number. The control room will monitor this service.
Police officials said many celebrations were being conducted on a large scale over the last few years without giving any thought to violation of law. People celebrate birth anniversaries of their leaders, birthdays of political leaders, festivals and weddings with the music systems playing till late night. Officials said while noise pollution beyond permissible limits was an offence, it also caused nuisance and health hazard to humans.
As per the rules, the prescribed highest limit of noise levels for residential localities is 55 and 45 decibels (during the day and the night respectively), for silence zones, the level is 50 and 40 decibels, respectively. For the industrial area, the permissible noise level is 75 and 70 and for commercial areas, it is 65 and 55 decibels respectively.
