Pune records season’s highest temp at 39.70 C

Pune: Thursday was the hottest day of the season in the city as the mercury level reached the 39.7 degrees Celsius mark. On Wednesday, Puneites experienced some respite due to light showers on Tuesday and partly cloudy weather, but on Thursday the temperature rose, making it the hottest day of this season.

Parts of Vidarbha experienced heatwave with temperature recorded at more than 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the region. The highest maximum temperature in the State was recorded at Chandrapur at 45.3 degrees Celsius and the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Nashik at 20 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted thundershower with rainfall in parts of Vidarbha on April 22 followed by thundershowers and rainfall in parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha on April 23. Weather in the remaining parts of the State will remain dry.

On Thursday, severe heatwave conditions prevailed in parts of coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch while the highest maximum temperature recorded over the plains was 45.3 degrees Celsius at Chandrapur in Vidarbha.

IMD also predicted that thunderstorms accompanied by squall and hail are likely at isolated places over West Bengal and Sikkim on April 22. Thunderstorms accompanied with squall likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha. In the south, thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are likely at isolated places over Telangana, Tamil Nadu, south interior Karnataka and Kerala.
