Pune police pay Rs 1 lakh rent for Addl CP office

Pune:  The Pune city police have rented a private bungalow in Kothrud at cost of Rs one lakh per month for the office of the additional commissioner of police (south region), currently held by Ravindra Sengaonkar. The posh bungalow at plot no. 10 of Bhagya Chintamani society near garbage depot on Paud Road, has become a talking point among the cops.

Earlier, the office was located in the building behind Dagdusheth Temple, where Faraskhana and Vishrambag police stations are also situated. The building also housed offices of two ACPs and zone I DCP.

Sengaonkar said, “South region is vast area and several people come to meet. The earlier office was situated in the building since 2007. We moved to this bungalow in October.” When asked if the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) was approached for providing space at a cheaper rate (Re 1 in most cases)”, he added, “The bungalow owner wanted

Rs 1.25 lakhs but we have got it for Rs one lakh only.

‘‘We have got the basement, ground floor, first floor, terrace area, and we have judiciously utilised them for our needs.

“The government had given NOC and then only we rented it.” A police officer told Sakal Times, “Only the bungalow owner is benefiting from this rent. There is no such office occupied any officer under Pune police commissionerate.

The PMC could have easily provided space, or it could have been located on the premises of any other police station in the region. The office of Add CP (North region) shares premises with Chatushrungi police station.”
