Pune police constables win medals in China

PUNE: Three police constables from Pune city police have won a silver and two bronze medals at the World Police and Fire Games, an Olympic-style competition that was held in China. 

Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham felicitated the winners in the presence of Jt CP Ravindra Shisve and Additional CP (Administration) Sanjay Shinde on Wednesday. 

Police Naik Mangesh Chavan won a silver medal in Karate, Head Constable Pradip Shahare won a bronze medal in the 800-metre run and Head Constable Manisha Thite won a bronze medal in the 400-metre run. 

About 10,000 athletes representing law enforcement, firefighters and officers from corrections, probation, border protection, immigration and customs from over 70 countries across the globe competed in over 60 sports.

The World Police and Fire Games 2019 were held from August 8 till August 18, 2019, at Chengdu in China.

The World Police and Fire Games originated in San Jose, California in 1985. 

Since then, the games have been held every two years in a different city across the globe.
