Pune Metro will have aluminium body coaches

Pune: The international bids for the supply of coaches for Pune Metro has been won by Titagarh Firema, a subsidiary of an Indian company, as they will supply 102 ultra-modern aluminium bodies, coaches, stated the press release by Maha Metro.

25 per cent of the total coaches will be manufactured at their plant while the balance will be produced and commissioned at Maha Metro Coach Manufacturing Plant in Nagpur.

This will be the first aluminium bodied coaches, which will be manufactured in India.

So far, stainless steel-bodied coaches were being used by various metros in India, however, aluminium coaches being lighter, are more energy-efficient and have better aesthetics.

Initially trains in Pune Metro will consist of three coaches, which will be subsequently converted into six coaches as per the traffic requirement.

Coaches will be ergonomically and aerodynamically designed with coach exterior to reflect the history and cultural heritage of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad areas.

Coaches will be fit for a maximum speed of 95 kmph and will have the capacity to accommodate over 925 passengers.
