Pune hawkers to take out protest march on April 5

Pune: A massive rally is being planned by Jijiya Kar Hatao Pathari Vyavasaik Sangharsh Kriti Samiti (action committee of hawkers to protest against the hike in tax) will be organised on April 5. The hawkers are demanding the reduction of tax collected from streetside vendors, hawkers and vegetable sellers in the city.

The rally is being organised to bring justice to hawkers who have been working untiringly for their family. The committee's President, Ravindra Malvadkar, said, “Our main objective is to remove this mindless increase in tax from Rs 20 to Rs 6,000 per month.

Moreover, when BJP MLAs from Hadapsar area are paying 14 paise square feet of the land allocated to them, poor hawkers are being charged Rs 12 per square foot,"

Under the guidance of Malvadkar, the rally will start from Shaniwarwada and will end at Pune Municipal Corporation's head office. The delegation of hawkers will submit their memorandum of demands to Mayor Mukta Tilak.
