Pune: With hotter days and no cool breeze at night, the new year ended on a moderate note for Puneites with the minimum temperature recorded on Sunday at 9.9 degrees Celsius by India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The lowest minimum temperature in the State was 7.3 degrees Celsius at Gondia.
The IMD has noted that the first week of the new year will be dry for Maharashtra and Goa. For Pune city, the minimum temperature will vary between eight degrees and 12 degrees and the maximum temperature for the day will be as high as 28 degrees Celsius. The weather may remain partly cloudy in the coming week.
The lowest minimum temperature recorded across the country was at 3.1 degrees Celsius at Ganganagar in west Rajasthan. Dense to very dense fog was observed at a few places over Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. Shallow to moderate fog was observed at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and West Rajasthan.
Also, very heavy rain occurred in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Sunday according to IMD.
Cold wave conditions at isolated places very likely over west Haryana, south Punjab and north Rajasthan till January 3.
According to the IMD forecast, dense fog at isolated places is very likely over north Jharkhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Madhya Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh till January 4.
For January 5 and January 6, IMD predicted rainfall at a few places very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over extreme south peninsular India. Rain and snowfall at isolated places likely over the western Himalayan region during the same time. Weather likely to be dry over remaining parts of the country.
