Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to bear 50 per cent expenses of the monthly mess facility provided to students belonging to reserved category staying in the PMC-run Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hostel.

A proposal in this regard has been tabled before the Standing Committee of the PMC by the civic administration for seeking its nod during the weekly meeting to be held on Wednesday.

This decision was taken by the PMC following the instructions of State Social Welfare Department which asked the civic body to pay the 50 per cent amount of the mess facility of the reserved category students staying in PMC-owned hostel from the academic year of 2017-18.

The PMC has decided to pay monthly Rs 2,150 to the students and the amount will be deposited in the bank account of the beneficiary students.

The PMC is providing hostel facility to the students belonging to the reserved category at this hostel located on Ghole Road. But the students enjoying the hostel facility have to pay the charges for using the monthly mess facility and their stay in the hostel.

As most of the students come from poor families they are finding it difficult to pay the hostel and mess fee charges.

The Facility
- The facility is for students staying in the PMC hostel.
- Only students from reserved category can avail the facility.
- It will start from the academic year 2017-2018.
- PMC will pay Rs 2,150 on monthly basis
