Pune Cantonment hospital gets new facilities

Pune: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) inaugurated a new dialysis centre, specialised OPD, rooftop solar power panel and the foundation stone of maternity ward at Pune Cantonment run Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment General Hospital (SVPCGH) on Tuesday.

These facilities were inaugurated BY Lieutenant General DR Soni, GOC-in-C, Southern Command, in the presence of IK Pegu, Principal Director of defence estate, Southern Command, Pune, Air Marshal CK Ranjan, Director and Commandant of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) and Phiroz Poonawala, Chairperson of Abbashai Kaderbhai Abdujee Trust. PCB President Rajiv Sethi, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) DN Yadav, Vice-President Atul Gaikwad and all elected members of the board, Vinod Mathurawala, Kiran Mantri, Dilip Giramkar, Ashok Pawar, Vivek Yadav, Priyanka Shrigiri and Rupali Bidkar were also present.

During the inauguration, Yadav mentioned that the board had acquired the equipment in August 2016, however, was unable to open the facility for public due to lack of experts. After much wait, the new dialysis centre has been inaugurated.

Meanwhile, due to insufficient space at the existing out-patient department (OPD) of SVPCGH, a need to expand the department was felt. Three rooms beside the OPD have been built as a specialised OPD for medical specialists, where the general medical physician from AFMC will provide daily services. The super specialists include endocrinologist, nephrologist, rheumatologist, chest physicians and cardiologist, who will visit weekly.

A 20 KW rooftop solar power plant has been installed in the hospital building in the first phase. “The expansion of the plant will be carried out as per availability of additional space after the construction of new buildings, so that 100 per cent power usage is achieved through solar energy,” Yadav said.

SVPCGH will soon have a full-fledged maternity ward with improvised facilities. The foundation stone of it was also laid on Tuesday.

“These facilities will benefit over one lakh people in Pune Cantonment area and we are hopeful that better facilities can be provided to the citizens here,” said Yadav.
