We have increased the seating capacity in Security Hold Areas (SHA) 1 and 2. Our focus is to provide facilities to passengers,” said Ajay Kumar, Airport Director.
The Airports Economics Regularity Authority (AERA) had forecast in a report submitted to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on November 9, 2017, that non-aeronautical services will generate revenue of Rs 50 crore for AAI at Pune airport by the financial year 2020-21. Sakal Times had published the news on November 23, 2017.
The report was titled ‘In a matter of determination of aeronautical tariffs at civil enclave in respect of Pune airport for the second control period (April 1, 2016, to March 31, 2021)’.
According to the AERA report, “The duty-free shop, which was opened earlier in 2017 (at Pune airport), earned Rs 1.1 crore revenue for AAI during 2016-17. AAI forecast that the duty-free shop will generate Rs 4 crore revenue during 2020-21. Similarly, the hoardings and displays which earned Rs 5.3 crore during 2015-16 (base period), will generate Rs 11.1 crore during 2020-21.” The 13 non-aeronautical services are expected to generate Rs 49.6 crore during the financial year 2020-21.
The profit at Pune airport can be attributed to various facilities available at the airport including the duty-free shop, book shops, leather accessory shop, art gallery, luggage and travel accessory shop, handicraft and jewellery shop. The airport has also started Ola and Uber cab facilities for passengers.
