Pune airport’s capacity to increase

The Pune international airport based in Lohegaon is all set to increase its capacity. It will see 30 new flights in the winter schedule, which will begin from October 28. Two new direct flights will start from Pune to Raipur and Hyderabad from August 1 and from mid-September, a direct flight for Goa will start.

Pune: The Pune international airport based in Lohegaon is all set to increase its capacity. It will see 30 new flights in the winter schedule, which will begin from October 28. Two new direct flights will start from Pune to Raipur and Hyderabad from August 1 and from mid-September, a direct flight for Goa will start.

Ajay Kumar, Director, Pune airport, told Sakal Times, “We are going to increase the capacity of flights from winter schedule. Overall, 30 new flights will depart from Pune to different parts of the country within six to eight months.”

The number of daily movements has now touched 200 per day from 158 last year. At this rate, the airport is expected to cross 10 million passengers per annum mark in the ongoing year. In 2017-18 fiscal, the airport had recorded a passenger growth of 20.6 per cent.

“We are going to start two new flights for Raipur and Hyderabad from August 1. Jet airways will start direct flights for Raipur twice a week, and SpiceJet will start a daily flight to Hyderabad. Apart from this, a flight to Goa will start soon by IndiGo,” said Kumar.

“We have increased seating capacity in the terminal building. We have added 1,524 seats in security hold area and 300 more will be added in the next 3-4 months,” he said.
