“Many private schools across the state have been charging unreasonable amounts of fees from students. And if parents refuse to pay the increased fees, the children have to face the consequences in the school,” Prajakta Pethkar, parent activist said.

Pethkar, in her letter, has emphasised that while several education officers and deputy directors of education in different regions have brought the malpractices by the schools to the government’s notice, no concrete action has been taken against these schools.

One of the major demands of the Trust is that the despite the Acts like Maharashtra Educational Institutes Fee Regulation Act, 2011, they are being violated by the educational institutes in the states. The Trust has demanded suspension of the education minister and senior officials of the
department.

Other demands include
 Establishment of a committee to check if the audit reports, balance sheets, profit and loss statements submitted by the schools have been inspected by the Education Department or not.
 Strict action against the RTI officer in case he or she fails to provide information under RTI within 15 days of complaint.
 Until the provisions in Maharashtra Educational Institutions Fee Regulation Act, 2011 are revised, the schools should be prohibited from imposing fee hike.
 Strict action against schools that, without adhering to Fee Regulation Act, impose unreasonable fees.
 During the protest, participating parents will be guided on how to use RTI Act effectively to obtain information within 48 hours, the Acts regarding school fee regulation, etc.
