Prof Gupta is Centre Director of NCRA

Pune: The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) appointed Professor Yashwant Gupta as the Centre Director of its National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), Pune with effect from  February 28. 

NCRA operates two radio telescopes, viz., the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT) at Ooty, Tamil Nadu and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at Khodad, 80 km north of Pune. 

Pune: The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) appointed Professor Yashwant Gupta as the Centre Director of its National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA), Pune with effect from  February 28. 

NCRA operates two radio telescopes, viz., the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT) at Ooty, Tamil Nadu and the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) at Khodad, 80 km north of Pune. 

Prof Gupta is a BTech graduate from IIT Kanpur and has done his MS and PhD in Radio Astronomy from the University of California, San Diego. He joined NCRA in 1990-91. He has served as Chief Scientist of GMRT and was appointed as the Dean (GMRT Observatory). 

He has been leading the NCRA team in the SKA project, an international mega science project. He has made over 80 contributions in international journals and proceedings. He has attended several national and international conferences. In addition he held many positions at national and international organisations.  Importantly he is a recipient of Shantiswarup Bhatnagar Award.
