Earlier in May, the government had announced in the Legislative Assembly that the CID will investigate the cases. AIMIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel had raised the issue.

PUNE: The principal secretary (minority development) has convened a meeting of the chief executive officer of Maharashtra Waqf Board, Pune regional Waqf officer, trustees of Alamgir Masjid Trust, Kondhwa, and Maharashtra Waqf Liberation Task Force, which has accused the trustees of selling 46 acres of waqf land in Kondhwa. Chief Minister Fadnavis has ordered the secretary to take action.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has begun the probe into alleged irregularities in Waqf land dealings across the State. The Waqf (endowment by a Muslim for a charitable cause) property is utilised for social purpose, and as per law, it cannot be sold or purchased. Earlier in May, the government had announced in the Legislative Assembly that the CID will investigate the cases. AIMIM MLA Imtiaz Jaleel had raised the issue.

The meeting will be held on November 3 at Mantralaya in Mumbai. “They have asked me to come with all documents. In reality, the Waqf board has all relevant documents. Also, MLA Jaleel and other people who too are fighting for the issue should have been invited. A reputed social NGO like Concern for People Trust has also sent a proposal for setting up of a university for Muslims on the said land. But they have not been called for the meeting. The people who are under CID scanner for their role in the Kondhwa Waqf land scam have been invited,” said Saleem Mulla of Maharashtra Waqf Liberation Task Force.
