A 45-year-old principal of an educational institute, under the jurisdiction of Yerawada police station, has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a 16-year-old girl student.

Pune: A 45-year-old principal of an educational institute, under the jurisdiction of Yerawada police station, has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a 16-year-old girl student.

According to police, the incident took place on April 10 at around 11 am. The girl had gone to the college for the annual examination. “I was opening the windows in the staff room when the Principal came from behind and passed lewd comments and molested me. I was alone in the room,” the girl stated in her complaint.

Police have charged the accused Principal for offences under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 11 (sexual harassment) and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
