Pune: There might be political reasons behind the appointment of Ram Nath Kovind as President, but there is no doubt that he belongs to modest background and has always advised his family members to live modestly.
One example of this is his daughter Swati, who works with Air India as a cabin crew member, but has never revealed her background to colleagues.

They came to know that she was Kovind’s daughter only after he was declared President. According to sources, Swati joined Air India in 2004 and operates on  international flights.

She never used the surname of her father and her official name in the records of Air India is Swati. She is currently based in Delhi. A female crew member close to Swati, on condition of anonymity, said, “Only her close friends in the airline knew that her father was a Governor.”

“She never tbragged about her connections. It was only when her father became President, the airline staffers came to know,” she added.
Rajendra  Dagaonkar, a first officer with AI, said, “She is a down-to-earth person and nobody can imagine from her modest behaviour that she belongs to the family of the President. It’s her good upbringing which has kept her grounded.”

Sakal Times tried to contact Swati, but couldn’t get through. However, we managed to talk to some other members of President Kovind’s family. Pranswaroop Bharti, younger brother of President Kovind, a retired official of Madhya Pradesh Public Health Engineering Department and lives in Guna , said, “The simple principles of my brother have kept all of us grounded. He always told us to live like commoners and not brag about one’s connections and authority.”

Karan Bharti, nephew of Bharti, who is preparing for the civil services exam said, “Not a single person in our family has ever bragged about our connection. Because we are commoners and have always lived our life simply.”
