Pregnant woman, 5 others stuck in hosp lift rescued by firefighters

Pune: Around 3 am on Monday, the Fire Brigade Department received a call from Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) that a few people were stuck in lift no. 3 of the hospital. Two fire brigade vehicles reached the hospital. A team from Naidu Fire Brigade reached SGH immediately.

Six people were stuck in the lift including a pregnant woman and a doctor from 1.30 am. The condition of the pregnant woman was bad and so the rescue work was started immediately. The woman was brought to Sassoon General Hospital as an emergency patient from another hospital. However, while going from the ground floor to the first floor, the lift got stuck.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Vijay Bhillare, Station Duty Officer from Naidu Fire Brigade said, “We used the lift shaft which is on the top floor and pulled the lift almost 60 per cent above its stuck position to help remove the people.”

“The problem was with the pregnant woman as she could not climb a stool to be pulled out. For this those stuck in the lift helped us along with our team members,” Bhillare further added. The firemen removed all six people from the lift in 30 minutes.

The pregnant woman was carried by the fireman and others were helped from the lift duct. In the rescue mission, along with Bhillare from Naidu Fire Brigade, Tanaji Manzare, driver Kareem Pathan, Dnyaneshwar Bhate, Ravi Madhav, Vinayak Mali and Akshay Dixit from Naidu Fire Brigade were part of the team.
