Prabhavalkar, Nihalani to be honoured at PIFF

Renowned Director Govind Nihalani, actor Dilip Prabhavalkar and music composer Raamlaxman will be felicitated at the opening ceremony of the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) this year, said Festival Director Jabbar Patel on Monday.

Nihalani, known for his take on sensitive issues through his movies, and Prabhavalkar, who along with being a renowned actor is equally celebrated as a thespian and a witty writer, will be conferred upon with this year’s PIFF Distinguished Award for Outstanding Contribution in Indian Cinema. Music composer Raamlaxman will be felicitated with the prestigious ‘SD Burman International Award for Creative Music and Sound’.

The award ceremony will be conducted as part of the opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the festival to be held at City Pride, Kothrud at 4.30 pm on January 10.
 
Vinod Tawde, State Minister of Cultural Affairs, veteran actor and BAFTA award winner Rohini Hattangadi, Marathi actress Sai Tamhankar will be present at the event, while actor Sumit Raghavan will be the presenter.

After the inauguration, the festival will open with a Spanish film ‘Damn Kids’ directed by Gonzalo Justiniano. The eight-day festival is organised by Pune Film Foundation and is formally titled as the Film Festival of Maharashtra by the State government.
