Pune: Discussions will take place on desired changes in higher education in India, along with challenges before it, in the ‘Educon 2017’ conclave, which will begin on Friday in Singapore.
Sakal Media Group has been organising the academic conclave for the past 12 years. Experts from higher education will deliberate on various issues related to the field and try to explore new vistas.
The concept behind this year’s ‘Educon’ is ‘Challenge of Changes in Higher Education’. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Prof Anil Sahasrabudhe will inaugurate the conclave on Friday morning in the presence of Sakal Media Group Chairman Pratap Pawar.
All delegates participating in the conclave will visit the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore after the seminars.
The academic conclave was held in Tel Aviv last year. The concept behind last year’s meet was ‘Innovation and Entrepreneurship’. Earlier conclaves were organised in Karlsruhe (Germany), Paris (France), Istanbul (Turkey), Shanghai (China), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dubai, etc., where experts from India had visited renowned universities and institutions associated with industries, besides discussing various topics related to higher education.
Topics for discussions
- Transformation of Education in India
- Ranking and Autonomy of Educational Institutions
- Physical and Digital Infrastructure
- Skill development and education
- Faculty and Staff Development
- Singapore experience
- International Linkages
A decade of Educon
Sakal Media Group brought experts together from education, technology and industry and started holding Educon, the national vice chancellors’ conference, 12 years ago. Educon has carved a niche for itself in the higher education field in the country. These conclaves have succeeded in establishing the interface between higher education and industry. Today, private universities are competing with foreign universities. In this backdrop, traditional universities need to change for quality and productive education, which is in tune with the times. This is the objective behind the conclave. ‘Challenge of Changes’ is the central idea of ‘Educon 2017’, being held in Singapore.
Singapore has successfully followed these changes in higher education in the past two decades. I believe that this brainstorming happening in Singapore will help Indian universities face the challenge of changes.
