Pune: A city-based businessman has alleged that he was brutally assaulted by Pune rural police officials ‘without any fault’ in Bhugaon on July 16, when he was returning to Pune with his wife and niece from Mulshi.

Armed with a medical certificate from the government run Sassoon hospital, the victim, who is a resident of Warje, has lodged a complaint with the office of the Superintendent of Police (Pune rural) on July 19. An enquiry has been ordered.

The medical report states that he had blunt trauma to left orbital region, contusion below left eye, blunt trauma to face and stomach.

The incident took place at around 10 pm. “While returning home on July 16 (Sunday), we were caught in a huge traffic jam near Bhugaon. An Audi vehicle was ahead of us.
“There was an argument going on between on duty policeman Rakse and the occupants of the Audi. As there was some space on the right side, I tried to go ahead.

“Rakse stopped my vehicle asking whether I want to run over him and told me to come out of the car. Police Sub Inspector Udhav Khade also reached there and took my license.
“He threatened me, my wife and niece of dire consequences. Soon a police van arrived and PSI Khade held me by the collar and dragged me inside the van.

“They closed the door of the van and mercilessly beat me. PSI Khade and others punched and kicked me. I requested them for mercy saying I have blood pressure problem and also have diabetes but they didnt pay any heed to my pleadings. The policemen inside the van asked me to apologise to PSI Khade and I fell at his feet. After that they took me out and also misbehaved with my wife and niece and abused them,” the complaint states.

When contacted, Pune rural SP Mohammed Suvez Haque told Sakal Times, “We will conduct an enquiry and will proceed as per the enquiry report.”
