Pune: Chatuhshringi police have not arrested the fourth accused in the Symbiosis College student assault case despite knowing his name and residence.
It is significant to note that Varun Desai, a Symbiosis College student, was brutally assaulted by NCP leader Pramod Nimhan’s son Pranit Nimhan and three others on the evening of April 26 in the lane of Sarja hotel in Aundh for not giving way to them while they were driving the car on ITI Road.
Chatuhshrungi police detained three of the four accused, including prime accused Pranit Nimhan, on Saturday. They were later given parental custody on the same day itself. Police claimed that the three accused were minors and that is why they were produced in the Juvenile court.
However, the fourth accused is still absconding and has not yet been detained. The family of the complainant has also raised an objection to the lackadaisical attitude of Chatuhshringi police in arresting the fourth accused and their empty promises on registering a motor vehicle act case against Nimhan and the owner of the car, which is on the name of Ujwala Nimhan. Salil Desai, father of the victim, said, “Police claim that he (fourth accused) has gone to his father in Mumbai. I am confused why police is not arresting or detaining the fourth accused despite knowing his whereabouts.”
When contacted, Dayanand Dhome, Police Inspector, Chatuhshringi police station, “We are going to arrest him soon. Whether he is a major or minor is still unknown but it will get clear once he is arrested. We are also going to file a case against the accused who was driving the car and will also register a case against the owner of the car, which has been seized by us.”
