Pune: Officials from the anti-organised crime cell (north region) of Pune city police (Crime Branch) have recovered 18 stolen bikes from a criminal on police records. However, his accomplice is absconding.
Acting on a tip-off received by Head Constable Deepak Bhujbal, a team led by Police Inspector Brahma Naikwadi laid a trap and nabbed Sohel Sunil Nanawat (23) of Yavat on July 9 in Khadki. The police said that Nanawat used to carry out thefts with his accomplice Lakhan alias Amol Vilas Deshmukh of Pandre in Baramati taluka.
According to the police, the accused persons have stolen vehicles from the jurisdiction of Wanowrie, Hadapsar, Loni Kalbhor, Chakan, Shikrapur, Jejuri, Vadgaon Nimbalkar, Lonikand, Phaltan in Satara district and Akluj in Solapur district.
DCP (Crime) Pankaj Dahane said, “We have identified owners of 15 bikes, while the search is on to find out remaining owners also.”
Inspector Naikwadi added, “We are searching for the wanted accused Deshmukh who has several cases registered against him including that of kidnapping, extortion and thefts.”
The investigation team included ACP Suresh Bhosale, Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Pawar, PSI PD Gaikwad, and policemen Raj Deshmukh, Ramesh Bhise, Hazrat Pathan, Pradip Shelar, Gade, Atul Menge, Vithal Bandgar, Raju More, Datta Phulsundar, Navnath Chandne, Dinesh Sable, Kantilal Bansude, Shital Shinde, Pandule and Sonawane.
