Police, Crime Branch get leads about rapist

Pune: Teams from Sinhagad Road police station and Pune city police Crime Branch are investigating some leads in the rape and murder case of the two-and-half-year girl.

She was kidnapped from her house in Vadgaon Khurd around Saturday midnight and her body was found next day morning about 500 metres away from her house.

The deceased, Shruti Vijay Shivange, lived with her parents in the ground floor flat of a building behind Crossover County society in Vadgaon Khurd. They hail from Latur district and had come here in search of livelihood. The husband-wife worked with a vegetable trader. Shivgane also worked as a waiter in a hotel.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Dr Pravin Mundhe said, “We have got some leads in the case but I cannot divulge details now. Teams from the local police station and Crime Branch are conducting investigations.”

As per the FIR lodged by Shruti’s father Vijay Shivgane, on Saturday his wife Vidya (25) was at home due to holiday for Bhau Beej. Shivgane returned from work around 3.30 pm.

“My wife’s maternal uncle Keshav Bhagwanrao Deshmukh from Kavalgaon in Parbhani district came to our house around 8.30 pm. My daughter had gone to sleep around 9 pm. Myself and Deshmukh had dinner around 10 pm and I went to sleep by 10.30 pm. My wife woke me up around 11.45 pm saying that Shruti is missing. She told me that she chatted with her uncle till 11 pm and then went to sleep. Shruti was sleeping beside her. However, when she woke up around 11.45 pm, Shruti was not there,” Shivgane stated.
