Pune: The police have arrested two more persons on Monday in connection with the gang-rape case of two minor girls. The minor girls were allegedly gang-raped in a village near Hinjawadi by a man and his minor accomplice on September 16. One of the girls had lost her battle to life while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The two new arrests were made on the basis of suspicion that the girls were sexually assaulted previously as well before the ghastly incident of September 16. However, the police have not revealed the name of two accused who have been recently arrested.
Previously, the Hinjawadi police station registered an FIR against Ganesh Nikam (22) and his 16-year-old accomplice on Wednesday. Both the accused are workers at a sugar factory in Kasarsai.
According to the police, both the girls aged 12 years were classmates.
They had gone to the temple in Kasarsai village around 3.30 pm when the accused persons lured them to the jungle behind the temple under the pretext of giving chocolates and then gang-raped them. They had threatened to kill them if they revealed anything about the incident to anyone.
The police informed that the girls were frightened and did not tell anyone about the incident. As one of the girls complained of stomach ache, two days after the incident, she was taken to Aundh Hospital and later to Sassoon Hospital.
The doctor realised the matter to be a case of rape and informed the police station. The girl was not in the condition to give a statement.
The Hinjawadi police located other girl and gave confidence to her parents to register a complainant. Unfortunately, the girl who was undergoing treatment at a hospital died on the night of September 19.
The police immediately arrested Nikam and his accomplice after the matter was reported to the police.
The new arrest of two more persons on Monday has taken the investigation into the murkier stages of crime as the police claim that there is much more to be revealed in the case.
RK Padmanabhan, Commissioner of Police, Pimpri-Chinchwad, said, “We are investigating the case from all angles and the new arrests were made on the basis of the statement of the girl.”
