Pune: Following the recent review meeting conducted last Sunday under District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) came down hard on illegal constructions in the Manjari area and demolished them.

The PMRDA meeting had discussed the issue of owners of illegal constructions which have been given prior notices but had not demolished their structures on their own.

MLA and District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat had asked the PMRDA authorities to speed up work of the pending projects in their hands and to take action on illegal constructions in areas like Wagholi and Manjari.

The Maharashtra Regional Regulation, 1966 requires the authorities to give a minimum of two notices before demolishing such structures. The PMRDA provided sufficient notice to these structures which count up to an area of 1154.4 square metres at Survey No. 45, Mauje Manjari Budruk. This was a four-storeyed construction with a single shop and 12 residential flats.

The demolition was carried out under supervision of PMRDA officials, engineers and police authorities. The PMRDA officials have appealed to citizens to verify the legality of the construction while purchasing property.
