Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has urged disabled persons, who are commuting with free bus pass, to migrate to Mi Card by September-end, after that they will not be able to avail of the benefit.

“It’s been observed that although a total of 5,687 Mi Cards have been manufactured by PMPML based on data available for providing them to beneficiaries of the scheme for disabled, only 3,494 beneficiaries have collected them. As on September 11, as many as 2,193 cards were yet to be collected,” said PMPML spokesperson Subhash Gaikwad.

September 30 has been fixed as the last date for allowing the use of old passes.

As per information provided by PMPML, there are a total of 5,687 persons with various disabilities who have registered under the transport body’s scheme for free yearly pass. Until now the beneficiaries used to get a paper pass. Since July 15, PMPML has started to migrate the beneficiaries of this scheme to Mi Card which is a digital pre-paid card. “If a differently abled person is found using the manual pass from October 1, the pass will be confiscated by the conductor. Hence, every beneficiary has been urged to collect the pass from the Shankarsheth Road Headquarters of PMPML,” said Gaikwad.
