Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has dismissed 158 staff members who had not marked their attendance for 22 days in a month.
This move came into effect from Saturday. Attendance of all employees was checked from August and anyone found not regularising their attendance was sacked.
According to a PMPML source, “The authority has decided to check all employees' attendance from August. As per the rule, employees have to maintain attendance for 22 days."
PMPML Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Tukaram Mundhe took this decision at a recent meeting. He observed that many employees are present in the office but do not maintain their attendance and rush to update it at the end of the month.
“Recently, two employees of PMPML, who occupied higher posts in the transport department, were dismissed as they did not inform senior officials about their leave,” said a highly-placed source in the PMPML.
“Mundhe has taken hard steps against the employees. He dismissed Sheshnarayan Khedkar and Sunil Gawali for continuous absence from the job. In November, Sheshnarayan Khedkar, a maintenance engineer of Bhosari depot was suspended for remaining absent for a long time. In December, Sunil Gawali, PMPML’s traffic manager, was dismissed for being absent from December 6 without prior information to the seniors,” he said.
When contacted, Subhash Gaikwad, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the PMPML, refused to comment.
No bio-metric machine
† On Friday, after the news spread, employees rushed to update their attendance from August.
† PMPML does not have bio-metric machines for attendance. Employees have to manually update attendance in the register. Many skip this daily exercise, preferring to do it in one go at the end of the month.
† Bio-metric punching machine for attendance will be installed at the
headquarters and other depots soon.
