Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has decided to mark a ‘bus bay’ at each bus stop dedicated only for their buses. Private vehicles will not be allowed to stop in this bay, failing which the traffic police will take action against them, said a PMPML official.

There are over 3,000 bus stops across the city. PMPML drivers have been instructed to stop buses inside the bay only for passengers to board them. Usually, drivers stop buses away from the bus stops. Earlier, bays were marked with yellow stripes near the stops. In the course of time, the drivers forgot to stop buses inside the yellow box.

“It has also been observed that private vehicles are parked near bus stops. Hence, it becomes difficult for drivers to halt buses inside the box. This results in passengers rushing to catch the bus away from the bus stop, which is unsafe. To solve this problem, the PMPML and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are making bus bay in front of each bus stop with yellow stripes,” said the senior official of the PMPML.

PMPML authorities are marking bus bays at all 3,000 bus stops. The officials are also ensuring that the bus halts inside the bay so that passengers can board the bus easily and safely. The officials have discussed the matter with the traffic police.
