PMPML hikes penalty for ticketless travellers

Pune: The The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has tripled the fine for persons travelling without tickets in the public transport utility buses. The fine has been increased from Rs 100 to Rs 300 which will come into effect from August 22.

The authority has decided to increase the fine for pass holders, for misusing their pass, to Rs 500.

According to PMPML records, 12 lakh people commute every day from different parts of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding places using PMPML buses.

“It has been observed that many passengers travel without ticket or using their expired pass. During the recent board meeting, a decision was taken to increase the fine by three times for people travelling without ticket,” said Subhash Gaikwad, Public Relations Officer (PRO), PMPML.

“Similarly, there are monthly pass holders who travel using the passes even after their validity is over. Now, they will be fined Rs 500 for one day and the fine will keep increasing every day by Rs 500.

“If the passenger does not pay the fine or he/ she does not have enough money, then legal action will be taken as per rules,” he said.
