PMPML gives green signal for trial runs of electrical buses

Pune : An ambitious project of the Pune Smart City Mission, the electrical buses or e-buses will not be just a dream for Puneites, as the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML) has no objection for trial runs.

The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL) will decide when they want to do the trial run, said Tukaram Mundhe, CMD of PMPML.

Mundhe was interacting with media persons on various issues related to PMPML, after its board of directors’ meeting on Wednesday.

“The PMPML has reservations about running of e-buses on the BRT routes. The height is a major factor. While the floor height of the BRT bus stops, is 900 mm, the e-buses’ floor height is 650 mm. How can these buses run on the BRT routes then? Therefore, we have permitted them for trial runs on the non-BRT routes and the route and depot has been selected for the same. Now, it is up to the PSCDCL to decide when they want to do the trial run. I have signed and allowed the trial run to take place,” Mundhe said.

The proposal for electrical buses was passed in April during the board of directors meeting of PSCDCL. It was decided that three such buses would ply on the roads on trial basis.
