PMPML to get 200 midi buses

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is all set to get 32-seater midi buses, around 200 in number, into its fleet. The formalities have been completed and the transport body is waiting for funds from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), said a PMPML official.

Recently, in a meeting of PMPML officials with District Planning and Development Council (DPDC) of Pune district, they pointed out that mini buses aren’t serving the purpose and that the transport body requires midi sized buses for convenient use in the city area. NP Bhande, Chief Engineer of PMPML, said, “We have already asked for 200 midi buses from the PMC. Now, we also want buses from MLAs’ funds if they are ready to help us out. However, the problem is that these buses are priced at Rs 33 lakh and MLAs have a spending limit of Rs 25 lakh for a single development work. The discussion is on in DPDC on how to make up the difference.”

“The fund allocated for both municipal corporation is Rs 40 lakh and we are waiting for it. Whenever we receive funds, we will start midi buses for peth areas,” he added.
