PMPML forms 2 teams to investigate fire incidents

Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) has formed a team to investigate incidents of buses catching fire. Two incidents of buses catching fire were reported on Wednesday and four such incidents were reported in the last 10 days.

“We have set up two teams to investigate the incidents. The teams have already started working. They are expected to submit their reports within 15 days. We cannot comment till the reports are submitted,” said Subhash Gaikwad, Public Relations Officer of PMPML.

“We noticed that wires of many buses are disconnected, which didn’t come to PMPML staff’s notice. It is possible that disconnected wires triggered some technical issue, which led to the blaze. We will take action in case of any laxity,” said the official.

According to PMP Pravasi Mitra, an NGO which works for commuters, something is wrong with PMPML buses and it has shaken the confidence of commuters. As many as 11 lakh commuters travel every day by 1,300 PMPML buses in the city. Officials of bus manufacturing companies have also been called to be a part of the investigation process. Gaikwad said, “They will also share their feedback. Prima facie, it appears that the fires were a result of short circuits.”
