PMPML driver sentenced to six months' imprisonment

Pune: A PMPML bus driver was granted six months of imprisonment by Joint Civil Judge PT Shejwal-Kale after the court found him guilty of negligence in an accident case in which two persons were killed and three were injured. The five persons came under a PMPML bus at Katraj bus depot on March 17, 2015.

The five persons came under a PMPML bus at Katraj bus depot on March 17, 2015. 

The deceased were Subhash Hanumant Dange (50) and Sunanda Tanaji Kakade (45) and the injured were Hemlata Hanumant Dange (70), Susheela Sanjay Dange (40) and Anushka Sanjay Dange (20). The family had come to Pune to attend a wedding in Pune from Satara and was waiting to go to Kothrud from Katraj when they were mowed down by a PMPML bus driven by accused, Vasant Abasaheb Gaikwad. He was then arrested by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police. 

Assistant Public Prosecutor Anant Choudhari testified eight witnesses and the court pronounced Gaikwad guilty for causing death by negligence. The case was investigated by Assistant Police Inspector SG Chavan and Police Naik Sushant Pharande.

Following the accident, there were major infrastructure changes at Katraj bus depot to prevent such mishaps.
