Pune: “Pu La Deshpande garden is not enough in the city to introduce the future generation to this iconic personality. And thus on behalf of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), I assure you that we will construct a museum in his memory,” said Mayor Mukta Tilak.
She was speaking at ‘Ya Sam Ha’, a function organised by Aashay Cultural Club, presented by Kohinoor Group in association with Square One on the 18th death anniversary of renowned author Pu La Deshpande at Balgandharva Rangmandir.
The book, unpublished work of Pu La, ‘Kasa Me, Asa Me’, was released which is a compilation of his articles, speeches, translations and reviews. The book has been published by Parchure Publication and has a foreword by senior writer Aruna Dhere. The compilation was done by Nagesh Kamble.
“I appeal to all Puneites to give suggestions to build a memorial of this iconic author, who was an institution in himself. I assure you I will do the entire documentation and exchange of letters with the Centre to bring a postal stamp in Pu La’s name,” Tilak said.
“The PMC is working on memorials as 2018-19 are celebrated as the centenary birth anniversary years of Pu La, author GM Madgulkar and music composer Sudhir Phadke,” she said.
Aashay’s Virendra Chitrav said, “On the occasion of ‘Centenary birth anniversary celebrations’ we will be organising 100 Pulaustav (Pu La Festival) at 100 locations across the world.”
The programme was followed by a symposium and a short film on Pu La was screened.
