PMC suggests minor changes in metro design

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suggested minor changes in its metro design to Mahametro at the Nal Stop Chowk and merge the upcoming flyover in the same project. As per the new design, the metro will pass from above the flyover at this Chowk.

The Nal Stop Chowk is the second busiest spot in the city after the University Chowk. Keeping this in mind and to decongest the traffic at the Nal Stop Chowk the municipal corporation has planned the flyover at this chowk and the Standing Committee had made the budgetary provision for the same.

Also, the metro corridor between Vanaz and Ramwadi will be passing from the same spot. Thus, the PMC has decided to merge this flyover in the metro project as there would be no duplication of work and will save time as well as money.

PMC Additional City Engineer Srinivas Bonala confirmed to Sakal Times that the planning is going in the right direction and Mahametro has given in-principle approval to it. The PMC will bear the cost of the flyover and it would be handed over to the Mahametro. The PMC is preparing a detailed plan for the flyover and jotting down its estimate. After the detailed plan is ready, it would be handed over to the Mahametro and they will merge it in their plan.

Meanwhile, the metro station is also coming up near SNDT College so the Mahametro will need to do minor changes in the design. They will need to change the location of metro station. The flyover will pass from below the metro corridor and end near Garware College. “The PMC will submit the proposal to the Standing Committee in next few days,” said Bonala.
