PMC extends deadline for bids of contracts

PMC extends deadline for bids of contracts

Pune: Owing to lukewarm response from bidders, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has extended the deadline for accepting bids for the much talked about 24x7 water supply project in the city. The work is supposed to be undertaken by six different contractors. For awarding the contract, bids were invited. But it has not got the expected response which forced the civic body to extend the deadline.  Out of six phases, only two bids were received each for 2nd and 4th phase. While more than three bids were received for 1st, 3rd and 5th phase of the project. But some of them are blacklisted companies in other local bodies. Now, the tender will be opened on January 15.

The estimate committee of the PMC in November had approved an estimate of Rs 2,650 crore for 24x7 water supply project in the city. Earlier, the civic body had to cancel the tender as the bids were found to be inflated. The civic body has raised funds for this project by issuing municipal bonds.

Soon after this decision, a fresh tender for the project was floated. The civic body had earlier raised Rs 200 crore through municipal bonds, the amount has been put in a bank as a fixed deposit due to delay in the execution of the project.

Only two bids were submitted each for Rs 295 and Rs 319 crore project of phase 1 and phase 4 where work under Parvati Water Works and Cantonment Water Works is supposed to be undertaken.

Civic authorities were expecting at least three bids. Since there is no fair competition, the bidding was extended for eight working days. In phase two, the work under Bhama Askhed water treatment plant is supposed to be undertaken for the Rs 319 crore work three bids from L &T, Lakshmi and SPML have been received.

In phase 3 work under Warje and Holkar water treatment plants is supposed to be undertaken. For the work of  Rs 542 crore, three bids including those of L&T, Jain Irrigation and SPML has been received.

In phase 5, work under Wadgaon water treatment plant is supposed to be undertaken. For the work of Rs 469 crore, three bids that include L&T, Jain Irrigation and SPML has been received. Since SPML is blacklisted company in other civic bodies, only two contractors remained in the competition.
